Kerala Braces for Hottest Days Yet as Maximum Temperature Soars
Kerala is set to face scorching temperatures in the upcoming days, with the mercury expected to soar to alarming levels. According to the latest forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), two districts, Kollam and Palakkad, could experience maximum temperatures reaching a staggering 40 degrees Celsius from Friday (April 5) to Tuesday (April 9).
A yellow alert has been issued for these two districts, as well as for several others including Thrissur, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Kozhikode, Kannur, Ernakulam, Malappuram, and Kasaragod. While Thrissur may witness temperatures around 38 degrees Celsius, other districts like Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Kozhikode, and Kannur are likely to experience temperatures hovering around 37 degrees Celsius. Ernakulam, Malappuram, and Kasaragod districts are also expected to face heat with temperatures around 36 degrees Celsius.
The IMD has issued a warning indicating that the maximum temperature may exceed the 98th percentile at isolated pockets across South Kerala.
In response to the heatwave conditions, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has advised the public to take precautionary measures to avoid heat stroke. People are urged to stay indoors during the peak sun hours from 11 am to 3 pm and ensure they remain well-hydrated.
Meanwhile, the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services has alerted about the possibility of high tidal waves ranging from 0.5 to 1.2 meters along the Kerala coast until 11.30 pm on Friday due to the ‘Kalla Kadal’ phenomenon. However, the Meteorological Department has granted permission for fishermen to venture into the sea along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts during this time.
