NIA Accelerates Investigation in Professor TJ Joseph Hand Chopping Case; Identification Parade and Forensic Examination Planned

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has initiated swift measures in the Professor TJ Joseph hand chopping case, focusing on the prime accused, Savad. Plans are underway for an identification parade, and the NIA team is preparing to file an application in the magistrate court to expedite the process. Currently in remand until January 24 and housed at the Ernakulam Sub Jail, Savad’s two mobile phones seized during his arrest will undergo a detailed forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.

The NIA remand report highlights the agency’s objective to unravel the conspiracy behind the case by interrogating Savad. It is revealed that Savad spent 13 years in hiding, allegedly with the assistance of leaders from the Popular Front of India. The arrest took place in Beram, Mattannur, where Savad had been living in a rented house. The NIA team, acting on a tip-off, surrounded the residence and apprehended him at 3 am. Savad had been alternating between Kannur and Kasaragod during his years in hiding, marrying in Kasaragod while maintaining a low profile. His father-in-law is reportedly associated with the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) in Kasaragod.

Savad settled in Beram approximately a year and a half ago, residing with his wife and two children, while also engaging in carpentry work. The NIA took charge of the case in March 2011, indicating the prolonged nature of the investigation into the incident involving the hand chopping of Professor TJ Joseph. The agency aims to expedite the identification parade and forensic examination to shed light on the intricate details of the case.
