In 24 hours, India records 35,662 new COVID-19 cases and 33,798 recoveries

According to data released by the Ministry of Health on Saturday, India recorded 35,662 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total caseload to 3,34,17,390. (September 18, 2021).

The country also recorded 33,798 recoveries in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 3,26,32,222, and the active caseload to 3,40,639. In the last 24 hours, the active COVID-19 caseload has increased by 1,583 cases.

In addition, India set a new world record on Friday by administering the most COVID-19 vaccines in a single day. To commemorate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 71st birthday, the country administered more than 2.50 crore vaccines through the “Vaccine Sewa” campaign. According to the data, India’s total number of vaccinations on the day reached 2,50,10,390 by midnight.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization’s (WHO) approval for Bharat Biotech’s COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin’s emergency use authorization (EUA) is likely to be delayed until October 5. The WHO Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE) will meet on October 5 to grant Covaxin EUA.
