New Teaching Posts Denied Amidst Classroom Height Issue

The recruitment of new teaching positions in Kerala is facing setbacks as the government denies approvals due to a decrease in the height of classrooms in newly constructed buildings funded by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). The government’s decision, based on a 10 cm shortfall from the mandated height of 3.7 meters, is expected to impact the recruitment process for teachers. This development comes at a time when thousands of candidates, who have successfully cleared the Public Service Commission (PSC) test, are eagerly awaiting appointments. The denial of new teaching posts is causing uncertainty and frustration among candidates and raises concerns about the impact on the education sector’s workforce.

Despite efforts by schools to seek exemption, the government has granted it only for existing teaching positions, creating a potential gap in the recruitment of new teachers. The situation highlights the challenges arising from the strict adherence to building standards and the unintended consequences it may have on the hiring process, leaving candidates and educational institutions in a state of uncertainty.
