Indian Meteorological Department Issues Yellow Alert for Eight Districts as Heatwave Intensifies

As the heatwave continues to grip Kerala, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for eight districts, signaling a substantial rise in temperatures. The districts affected include Kollam, Alappuzha, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad. According to the IMD, these regions are expected to experience temperatures two to four degrees Celsius above the normal range. The maximum temperature in districts like Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Palakkad, and Kozhikode is forecasted to reach 37 degrees Celsius on both Monday and Tuesday. Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Kannur are likely to see a maximum temperature of 36 °C, urging residents to take precautions to combat the torrid conditions.

Residents in the affected districts are advised to adopt safety measures to cope with the rising temperatures. These include avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., staying well-hydrated by drinking plenty of fresh water, and refraining from dehydrating drinks like alcohol and caffeine during the day. Additionally, wearing loose, light-colored cotton clothes is recommended to minimize heat-related discomfort. The yellow alert emphasizes the need for vigilance and preparedness as the heatwave persists in these regions.
