Blast in autorickshaw; suspicious of terror, says Karnataka top cop

After the Blast in an autorickshaw, the Karnataka Director General of Police on Sunday said that the ‘mysterious blast’ was an act of terror and a “deep probe” into the incident is underway. The blast is not accidental but an act of terror with the intention to cause serious damage. Karnataka State Police is probing deep into it along with central agencies,” the DGP said in a tweet.

A moving autorickshaw exploded on Saturday, causing fire and heavy smoke, and the driver and a passenger were among those who sustained burn injuries. According to the auto driver, the passenger had something in his bag that caught fire and spread to the vehicle. Visuals of the blast showed the autorickshaw exploding after it came to a stop near a building where construction work was going on.

A bomb disposal squad and a dog squad are currently at the blast site. The autorickshaw, too, has been brought to the spot as part of the ongoing investigation. Additional Director General of Police Alok Kumar has ordered a high-level probe into the blast as the state police found suspicious explosive material inside an exploded cooker that was carried by a passenger. Four batteries and circuit wires were also recovered from inside the cooker.
