Shraddha murder case: accused Aaftab Poonawala to undergo polygraph test

In the brutal Shraddha Walker murder case, the Delhi police on Monday were given permission to conduct a polygraph test on accused Aaftab Poonawala. A polygraph test is also known as a lie detector test. In this test, devices, including cardio-cuffs and sensitive electrodes, are attached to the person being tested.

The instruments measure and record blood pressure, blood flow, pulse, respiration, breathing rhythms, skin conductivity, perspiration and arm and leg movement while he/she is asked specific questions. Deceptive answers (or when a person is lying) trigger physiological responses that are different from when he/she is stating the true facts.

The changes in the person’s body, his/her breathing pattern, and heart rate are monitored by the investigators.
Aaftab has been accused of murdering his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar in May this year. After killing Shraddha, Aaftab allegedly chopped her body into 35 pieces and disposed of it over the next 18 days. The grisly details of the murder, which came to light more than 5 months after the crime, have shocked the nation.
