College timings likely to extend up to night with revised curriculum from next year

As per the reports working hours of colleges will change with the launch of a new curriculum in the next academic year. The academic facilities will open from 8 am or 8.30 am to 8 pm or 8.30 pm for students. However, the current timings will continue for the classes.

In addition to this, the working days of colleges are likely to be increased to 6 days a week. The revision of class timings will be introduced without tampering with the working hours of teachers. A final decision can be taken only after detailed discussions, said Minister of Higher Education R Bindu at a curriculum-related workshop.

The new curriculum will facilitate students to select subjects according to their aptitude. It will be developed giving importance to the credit system. A definite credit will be accorded for academic and social works related to studies.

The colleges will have to conduct discussions, debates, workshops and seminars in connection with the courses and give a credit score to students in proportion to their participation. Hence, the curriculum revision aims to adopt a more student-centric approach to the education system.
