Government to Review IAS Officers’ Request for Enhanced Post-Retirement Benefits

The state government has announced its intention to evaluate the demand put forth by retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, seeking additional post-retirement benefits beyond their pension. This move is in response to the IAS Association’s request for benefits similar to those currently enjoyed by retired judges of the Kerala High Court. Presently, retiring Chief Justices and Judges are entitled to receive Rs 25,000 and Rs 20,000 per month, respectively, as supplementary benefits alongside their pension. The IAS Association contends that IAS officers should be granted similar perks upon retirement. In a recent response to a Right to Information (RTI) query, the government disclosed its commitment to examining the IAS officers’ demands. Notably, the government also admitted to a lack of data regarding the number of retired IAS personnel who may be eligible for such benefits.

The state government is set to explore the feasibility of acceding to the IAS officers’ request for enhanced post-retirement benefits, paralleling those currently enjoyed by retired judges in Kerala. The government’s acknowledgment of the need for an examination comes in light of the IAS Association’s push for parity in benefits for its retired members, and the situation is marked by the absence of concrete data on the number of retired IAS officers eligible for these additional benefits.
