Carry RT-PCR report when crossing the Delhi-Noida-Gzb border; the government proposes new restrictions

The Uttar Pradesh government is considering making a negative RT-PCR report or a COVID-19 vaccination certificate for both doses mandatory for people coming from states with a high COVID-19 positivity rate. Many people visiting UP from other states have tested positive for the coronavirus, which has concerned state officials.

On Saturday (July 17), Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met with Team-9 to discuss the COVID-19 situation in the state. According to a Hindustan report, the CM has directed officials to develop detailed guidelines for making RT-PCR mandatory for people entering from other states.

People arriving in the state via planes, buses, and trains have been found to be COVID-19 positive, according to the CM. He emphasised contact tracing and testing people from other states.

On Saturday, Uttar Pradesh reported 81 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of infections to 17,07,822. With six new fatalities, the death toll now stands at 22,715. The number of active cases currently stands at 1,310, with 1,114 in home isolation. Nearly 40 districts reported no new COVID-19 cases since Friday, while 34 districts reported cases in the single digits.

Meanwhile, the Kanwar Yatra unions in Uttar Pradesh called off all pilgrimages for this year on Saturday. The decision came after the UP government initiated talks with “kanwar sanghs” and urged them to make the right decision on the annual yatra in response to Supreme Court direction. The Supreme Court had asked the state government to reconsider its decision to hold the hearing and had asked to be notified of the decision by July 19.
