Kerala Tourism Aims to Elevate Beach Tourism and Hospitality Standards

In a bid to enhance beach tourism and elevate hospitality standards, the Kerala government is prioritizing the development of beach tourism projects. Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas, after inaugurating the renovated Samudra Kovalam, emphasized the importance of aligning beach tourism initiatives with current demands and adopting innovative ideas in the tourism sector. The refurbished Samudra Kovalam, a beachside resort operated by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC), has undergone significant upgrades to cater to destination weddings and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism.

Minister Riyas highlighted Kerala’s potential as a hub for destination weddings, leveraging its picturesque locations. The government is committed to creating top-notch facilities for this niche area, aligning with the global trend of destination weddings. KTDC Chairman P K Sasi noted that the recent renovation involved refurbishing 40 rooms in line with modern aesthetic concepts, with plans to renovate an additional 24 rooms in the next phase. The Samudra Kovalam resort, nestled along the Arabian Sea with coconut tree-lined surroundings, is a flagship model for beach tourism in Kerala. The recent improvements, completed on a budget of Rs 12.68 crore provided by the state government, aim to position the property as an ideal venue for high-end weddings and MICE tourism.
