Brahmapuram plant fire; collector Dr Renu Raj may seek help of Air Force too

In case fire and smoke rising from the Brahmapuram solid treatment plant does not subside by noon, may seek the help of the Air Force informed, Ernakulam district collector Dr Renu Raj. A discussion was carried out with the Air Force with the support of the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority.

Meanwhile, attempts to put out the fire and clear out the smoke have been progressing by sprinkling water from a helicopter. The efforts to extinguish the fire with a helicopter are proceeding under the Indian Navy which arrived at the spot on the request made by the corporation.

The Navy may deploy more helicopters to put out the fire that has been engulfing the area for the past 48 hours.
Water from the tankers’ association has been brought to the Brahmapuram plant through the RTO. More Fire and Rescue officers are also deployed under the supervision of regional fire officers here.

Though the intensity decreased, massive smoke clouds are emitted from the waste plant. The smoke clouds have enveloped nearly 10 kilometres of the area around the Brahmapuram plant, spreading to the major part of Kochi.
