Tight Security Measures in Place for Independence Day Address by PM Modi at Red Fort

New Delhi: A comprehensive security arrangement has been established in New Delhi on Tuesday, with over 10,000 personnel stationed in the vicinity of the historic Red Fort. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to deliver the nation’s 77th Independence Day address from this iconic location, amidst stringent security measures enforced by the police.

Approximately 1,000 cameras equipped with facial recognition and video analysis technology have been installed in and around the Red Fort, along with other strategic sites, aimed at ensuring security and closely monitoring the movements of VVIPs. Traffic restrictions have been implemented in the vicinity of the Red Fort throughout the duration of the celebrations.

Delhi Police spokesperson Suman Nalwa emphasized that extensive security preparations have been underway for the past few months, incorporating anti-terrorism measures and surveillance of areas near the venue. Advanced security technology such as AI-based facial recognition CCTV cameras and anti-drone systems have been deployed.

Traffic management has also been carefully organized, with traffic police issuing advisories and imposing restrictions on heavy vehicles at Delhi’s borders since Monday night. Stringent monitoring of social media platforms is being conducted as well.

The Gyan Path in front of the Red Fort has been adorned with flowers and G20 signage, though the ramparts of the fort, from where the Prime Minister will address the nation, have minimal decorations.

Around 1,800 distinguished guests from across the country have been invited to attend the event, including 75 couples from each state and Union Territory, donning their traditional attire. Special invitees include village leaders, nurses, fishermen, and laborers involved in the Central Vista project.

With over 20,000 officials and civilians participating in the Independence Day celebrations this year, the security arrangements are robust. Special Commissioner of Police HGS Dhaliwal confirmed the heightened vigilance of all police units and collaborative efforts with relevant agencies. Citing the upcoming G20 summit and recalling incidents before the Republic Day celebration, Dhaliwal highlighted the importance of thorough security measures.

In light of recent unrest in Haryana’s Nuh region and its surroundings, authorities are maintaining strict vigilance to ensure safety and order.
