Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan’s Medical Bills Raise Eyebrows Amid State Financial Crisis

Amidst a financial crisis in the state, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has reportedly incurred medical expenses amounting to Rs 72.09 lakh over the past two years for treatments at the Mayo Clinic in the United States. The expenses cover various aspects, including airfare, accommodation, and food for individuals accompanying the Chief Minister, including his wife. The nature of the medical treatment received by Vijayan at Mayo Clinic remains undisclosed.

This revelation comes at a time when the state is grappling with economic challenges, prompting concerns about the allocation of funds for the Chief Minister’s medical bills. In 2022 alone, Rs 29.82 lakh and Rs 42.27 lakh were spent on medical expenses during two separate periods. The General Administration Department has approved the disbursement of these amounts, raising questions about transparency and financial priorities in the state.

Additionally, details about medical expenses incurred for Vijayan’s wife, Kamala, at the legislative hostel’s health clinic have surfaced, further intensifying scrutiny over the utilization of public funds for healthcare. The situation highlights the need for accountability and transparency in the allocation and spending of state resources, especially during challenging economic times.
