Milma Prepares for Onam with Additional 10 Million Litres of Milk

In preparation for the week-long Onam festivities, the Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (Milma) is making arrangements to secure an extra ten million litres of milk, surpassing its usual requirements. Milma’s Chairman, K.S. Mani, revealed that the federation intends to source this additional milk from neighboring states’ dairy cooperatives. This move comes as Onam approaches without the COVID-related concerns that marked the festival since 2020. Consequently, Milma is optimistic about achieving an all-time high in the sales of milk and its related products.

Anticipating a significant surge, Mani remarked, “We anticipate a 12% increase in milk sales and a 16% rise in curd sales during the Onam period. We have taken steps to guarantee an abundant supply of milk, curd, ghee, and other products throughout the celebration.” He also explained that due to various factors, the demand and supply gap for milk in Kerala is more pronounced compared to other states. Consequently, Milma has proactively arranged for extra procurement to meet this heightened demand, even if it involves paying a premium.

Mani emphasized, “Despite acquiring milk at a higher cost, the festive spirit won’t be dampened by shortages. Milma is committed to ensuring uninterrupted access to high-quality milk for the people of Kerala during the Onam season.” He also mentioned that Milma has contributed 650,000 units of ghee and payasam mix to beneficiaries of the government’s free Onam kit for yellow ration cardholders.
