Tanur boat tragedy: owner arrested

The owner of the boat Atlantic that capsized on Sunday, resulting in the death of 22 individuals in Tanur has been arrested. The person has been nabbed from Kozhikode’s Elathur. He was reportedly hiding in a house in the locality. Earlier, police seized his vehicle and mobile phone. They also nabbed Nasser’s brother, Salam, his (Nasser) brother’s son and neighbour Muhammad Shafi.

The new development comes at this juncture. Nasser was booked for culpable homicide after several complaints emerged against him over the mishap. The Kerala government had ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in a Facebook post said the police investigation will be conducted by forming a special investigation team and Malappuram District Police Chief will head it. Meanwhile, Kerala Human Rights Commission registered a case concerning the boat tragedy. Malappuram district collector and district police chief and Port chief surveyor of Alapuzha have to submit a report to the Commission.
