Messi Leads Argentina to Copa America Final with 2-0 Victory Over Canada

Lionel Messi scored as Argentina defeated Canada 2-0 on Tuesday, securing a spot in the Copa America final. The world champions are now poised to compete for their third consecutive major title. The final, scheduled for Sunday in Miami, will see Argentina face either Uruguay or Colombia, who play their semi-final match on Wednesday.

Argentina, 15-time Copa champions, delivered their best performance of the tournament at a packed 82,500-seat MetLife Stadium. Despite Canada’s impressive run to the semi-finals in their first Copa America appearance, they were outmatched by Messi and his teammates. Canada’s high-energy style created early opportunities, but Argentina quickly took control of the game.

Veteran Angel Di Maria, playing in his last tournament for Argentina, frequently connected with Messi, creating numerous scoring chances. The breakthrough came in the 22nd minute when Rodrigo De Paul lofted a pass to Julian Alvarez, who scored with a deft touch. Argentina’s attacking trio of Di Maria, Messi, and De Paul consistently pressured Canada’s defense.

Shortly before halftime, Di Maria set up another chance for Messi, who narrowly missed the target. After the break, De Paul assisted Messi in doubling Argentina’s lead, securing the victory. Although Canada had a few late attempts, Argentina’s defense held firm, and the team now stands one win away from a record 16th Copa America title.
