Kochi Gears Up for ‘Millet and Fish Festival’ Promoting a Fusion of Health and Taste

Kochi is set to host a three-day ‘Millet and Fish’ festival from December 28 to 30 at the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), organized by the Ernakulam Krishi Vigyan Kendra. Aligned with the International Year of Millets-2023, the festival aims to raise awareness about millets and their fusion with fish for a nutritious and balanced diet. The event will feature various activities such as a buyer-seller meet, millet and fish food festival, live fish sale, millet-based product sales, cookery shows, recipe contests, technology exhibitions, and health talks. The festival aims not only to showcase the culinary versatility of millets and fish but also to promote healthier lifestyles and create a robust market value chain for millets grown by farmers outside the state.

Dr. A Gopalakrishnan, Director of CMFRI, emphasizes the festival’s role in promoting healthy eating habits and fostering a market for millets in Kerala. The fusion of millets and fish offers a promising avenue for wholesome and nutritional diets, enriching Kerala’s diverse culinary landscape. The event, supported by various organizations including NABARD, NFDB, and ICAR, is expected to attract participants from millet farmers to entrepreneurs and create a vibrant platform for sharing knowledge, experiences, and the unique flavors of millets and fish.
