‘My friend was raped,’ Olympian Mayookha Johny claims, accusing government officials of protecting the perpetrator.

On Monday, Olympian Mayookha Johny made a shocking revelation, claiming that a friend was raped in July 2016.

She also blamed the delay in bringing the violator to justice on police apathy and ministerial-level intervention.

Mayookha told a news conference in the presence of the woman identified by the athlete as the rape survivor that a man, Chungath Johnson, who committed the crime, had been threatening her friend.

The young woman was allegedly raped prior to her marriage, but she remained silent out of fear of social stigma.

Following her marriage, the survivor was threatened with the distribution of a video clip of the alleged crime. Mayookha said she decided to file a complaint after goons threatened her at her home.

“In March 2021, the survivor filed a complaint with the police. Despite the fact that her statement was recorded in camera, no arrest has been made “Mayookha, the current national triple jump record holder, told reporters.

After learning that the woman had told Mayookha about her trauma, the alleged rapist threatened her even more.

“I was also threatened in a Kochi mall,” Mayookha said.

Mayookha claims that a state minister intervened on behalf of the perpetrator, causing the arrest to be delayed.

M C Josephine, the former chairperson of the Women’s Commission, also claimed that she did not support the young woman in her quest for justice.

The High Court of Kerala is currently hearing a petition seeking the arrest of the alleged criminal.

The Thrissur Rural Police have yet to find any evidence relating to the incident that occurred five years ago. Police said they were still looking for evidence to back up the allegation.

Josephine was forced to resign from the Woman’s Commission on Friday after a comment she made about an alleged incident of domestic violence sparked a backlash.
