Kochi Grapples with Twin Tragedies: Bomb Explosion and CUSAT Auditorium Stampede

Kochi finds itself grappling with the aftermath of two consecutive tragedies within a month. The city was shaken by a bomb explosion that claimed six lives during the Jehovah’s Witnesses convention in Kalamassery on October 29. The haunting memory of this incident lingers as Kochi now mourns the loss of four students in a tragic stampede at the CUSAT auditorium on Saturday evening.

The CUSAT auditorium incident unfolded during a music concert, leading to a stampede as students rushed inside to seek shelter from sudden rain. This adds another layer of sorrow to the city’s recent experiences. The affected individuals were swiftly transported to Kalamassery Medical College hospital, with around 50 students currently undergoing treatment. Additional students are receiving care in other private hospitals. The proximity of these unfortunate incidents—both in Kalamassery—further intensifies the collective grief and shock that the people of Kochi are currently enduring.
