Superstar Vijay Contemplates Political Foray: New Party on the Horizon with Focus on State Elections
Rumors are swirling that popular actor Vijay is gearing up to launch his own political party in anticipation of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Reports suggest that discussions regarding this potential move took place during a meeting with his fan association. While there are indications that the new political entity could be registered with the Election Commission within a month, Vijay has reportedly instructed his supporters to prioritize the 2026 assembly elections over the Lok Sabha polls.
Preceding the formal announcement of the political party, Vijay’s fan organization, Vijay Makkal Iyakkham, has already initiated various community-centric activities, concentrating on assembly constituencies across the state. Their endeavors include the establishment of free tuition centers, reading rooms, clinics, and legal aid centers in different locations. The actor, during the promotion of his film “Leo,” had hinted at his political aspirations. It is also noted that Makkal Iyakkham has been assigned the task of forming booth committees in all 234 constituencies.
The Tamil film industry has seen other actors like Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan making strides into politics, but with varying outcomes. Rajinikanth abandoned his political plans citing health concerns, while Kamal Haasan’s party, Makkal Needhi Maiam, faced limited success in elections. Meanwhile, the once-dominant AIADMK appears to be fading from Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. Simultaneously, efforts are underway to expand the membership of the Vijay fans association.
