PM Narendra Modi and Kamala Harris discuss Pakistan’s role in terrorism.

Washington, D.C. (US): A wide range of topics, including COVID-19 and global developments such as terrorism, were discussed when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US Vice President Kamala Harris met for the first time in person in Washington. The role of Pakistan in the context of terrorism and its impact on India, the United States, and the rest of the world was also discussed.

During her meeting with Modi, Harris “suo moto” referred to Pakistan’s role in terrorism, stating that there were terror groups operating in the country and urging Islamabad to take action so that America and India’s security is not jeopardized.

On Thursday (September 23), Prime Minister Modi met with Vice President Harris at the White House, where they agreed to strengthen the Indo-US strategic partnership and discussed global issues of mutual interest, such as threats to democracy, Afghanistan, and the Indo-Pacific.

When asked if the issue of Pakistan’s role in terrorism came up during her meeting with Prime Minister Modi, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said, “When the issue of terrorism came up, the Vice President suo moto referred Pakistan’s role in that regard (of terrorism).”

According to Shringla, Harris stated that terror groups were active in Pakistan. “She asked Pakistan to take action so that this does not jeopardize US and Indian security. She agreed with the Prime Minister’s briefing on cross-border terrorism, the fact that India has been a victim of terrorism for decades, and the need to rein in and closely monitor Pakistan’s support for such terrorist groups “Shringla explained.

Harris stated that it is the responsibility of the two countries to protect democracies in the best interests of their respective peoples. “As democracies around the world face threats, it is critical that we defend democratic principles and institutions both within our own countries and globally. And that we continue to do what we must to strengthen democracies at home, and that it is incumbent on our nations to protect democracies in the best interests of our people “She stated.

Their meeting comes a day before Modi’s first bilateral meeting with President Joe Biden and the Quad Leaders’ Summit at the White House on Friday (September 24).
