Tourists Denied Entry to Muthalamada Railway Station Due to Safety Concerns

Tourists visiting Muthalamada railway station during the Onam vacation were left disappointed as station authorities denied them entry, citing safety concerns. Even those attempting to purchase platform tickets and access the station were reportedly turned away. Muthalamada railway station is a popular spot for tourists and film and TV production crews visiting Kollengode, known for its picturesque banyan trees lining the tracks.

The decision to restrict access was made by the Palakkad Division authorities, who aimed to prevent accidents and damage to property. There have been previous incidents where tourists climbed on the roots of the banyan trees, putting their lives at risk by coming into contact with electrified lines.

Interestingly, there is a growing public demand to transform Muthalamada into a tourist railway station similar to Ooty and Coonoor. Currently, three trains pass through Muthalamada station: Thiruvananthapuram-Madurai Amritha Express, Palakkad-Chennai Express, and Palakkad-Tiruchendur Express. Among these, only the Tiruchendur Express makes a stop at Muthalamada. However, the timing of this train, arriving at 6.40 a.m. from Palakkad and departing at 8.25 p.m., is not conducive for tourists.
