P V Sindhu Takes Break from Badminton Due to Knee Injury

Indian badminton sensation P V Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, has been advised to take a break from the sport for a few weeks after a scan revealed a minor issue in her left knee. Sindhu was forced to withdraw from her second-round match against Thailand’s Supanida Katethong at the French Open Super 750 event in Rennes due to the knee injury.

In a social media post, the 28-year-old athlete from Hyderabad shared, “After returning from France and undergoing a knee scan, we’ve found a niggle in my left knee. In hindsight, conceding the match was the best call. Doctors have advised a few weeks’ rest before I begin training again. The break is also an opportunity to focus on the upcoming Olympics. I shall be back on the court very soon.”

Sindhu, who has been struggling with her form this season, recently made a comeback to the top 10 rankings after a six-month hiatus, following impressive performances at the Arctic Open and Denmark Open, where she reached the semifinals. She had dropped to world No. 17 in August.

The upcoming tournaments on the BWF World Tour this month include the Korea Masters Super 300 (November 7-12), Kumamoto Masters Japan Super 500 (November 14-19), China Masters Super 750 (November 21-26), and Syed Modi India International Super 300 (November 28-December 3). Sindhu’s break aims to aid her recovery and preparation for these crucial competitions.
