Kerala Government Rejects Possibility of Power Cuts Despite Severe Crisis

Amidst a severe electricity shortage, the Kerala administration has opted against enforcing load shedding or power outages within the region. This resolution was reached during a significant meeting led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday.

The Chief Minister has instructed the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) to prevent any circumstances that might necessitate power restrictions. Reportedly, the board has initiated the process of procuring power through short-term transfer agreements via tender invitations. The strategy aims to avert regulatory measures by procuring additional power, even if at elevated expenses.

The KSEB has attributed the power crisis exacerbation in the state to a lack of rainfall, compounded by the regulatory commission’s annulment of long-term agreements. Although the board has urged governmental intervention to reinstate these agreements, no discussions have been held on this matter thus far.
