ISRO Places Chandrayaan-3 Lander and Rover in Sleep Mode

ISRO announced on Monday that the Vikram lander of the Chandrayaan-3 mission has been placed in sleep mode, following the rover Pragyan, which entered sleep mode on Saturday.

“Vikram Lander is set into sleep mode around 08:00 Hrs. IST (8 am) today. Prior to that, in-situ experiments by ChaSTE, RAMBHA-LP, and ILSA payloads are performed at the new location. The data collected is received at Earth,” ISRO stated in an update on the micro-blogging site X. The payloads were powered off, and the “lander receivers remain active.” ISRO mentioned, “Vikram will go into hibernation alongside Pragyan once the solar power is exhausted, and the battery is drained. We hope for their reactivation around September 22, 2023,” the space agency said.

ISRO Chief S Somanath had previously announced that the rover and lander of the lunar mission would be put into “sleep mode” to endure the lunar night.
