Humanitarian Crisis Unfolds: Israeli Authorities Warn of Strikes in Gaza, Hamas Releases US Hostages

Israel has issued warnings to humanitarian organizations in Gaza, urging the evacuation of a major hospital and five schools in anticipation of potential strikes, according to aid agencies. The Al-Quds Hospital in northern Gaza, heavily affected by Israeli air raids following significant attacks by Hamas, faces evacuation, impacting over 400 patients and 12,000 displaced individuals seeking refuge. A similar evacuation order was received last Saturday, following which a rocket attack struck near the hospital. Concurrently, Israel instructed UNRWA to swiftly evacuate five schools in Gaza City, located near the hospital. Despite protests, these facilities are no longer deemed safe, prompting an urgent appeal for thousands in the vicinity to flee.

In a parallel development, Hamas, after abducting around 200 hostages during brutal October 7 attacks in Israel, has released two American captives, Judith Tai Raanan and her daughter Natalie Shoshana Raanan. Their return to Israel was confirmed, although their condition remains undisclosed. US President Joe Biden expressed relief and joy at their release. Hamas indicated ongoing efforts, in collaboration with Qatar and Egypt, to free more “civilian” hostages, hinting at potential further releases.
