Kerala Kidnapping Update: Padma Kumar’s Unusual Request Amid Arrest

The recent kidnapping case in Kerala took an unexpected turn when Padma Kumar and his family, accused of abducting a six-year-old girl, made an unusual request to the police during their arrest. Instead of asking for personal favors or leniency, the family’s sole demand was to ensure the well-being of the dogs they cared for. Known for fostering abandoned and stray dogs, the family couldn’t bear the thought of their beloved animals facing difficulties in their absence. Padma Kumar is currently remanded in Poojappura Jail, while Anitha Kumari and her daughter are lodged in Attakulangara Women’s Sub Jail. The police are actively investigating the case and aim to submit the charge sheet within 90 days, making the possibility of bail for the accused unlikely.

The arrest of Padma Kumar and his family, who kept the state on edge with their brazen abduction, was recorded at the Pooyapally station after bringing them from Tenkasi to the Adoor Battalion camp. The trio faces serious charges, including kidnapping from parents (IPC 361) and kidnapping minors (IPC 370), which carry potential sentences of up to seven years and life imprisonment, respectively. Additionally, charges under IPC 323 for minor injuries and IPC 34 for a crime committed by a gang with a criminal goal have been applied. As the investigation progresses, the focus is on ensuring justice for the victim and addressing the legal consequences for the accused family.
