IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Heavy Rainfall in Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod on Thursday

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the districts of Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod in Kerala, predicting heavy rainfall ranging from 7 to 11 cm within a 24-hour period on January 4 (Thursday). According to the special bulletin released on Monday, the IMD anticipates rain or thundershowers in one or two places in Kerala between January 1 and 3, as well as January 5 to 7. However, a few places are expected to experience precipitation on January 4.

The weather pattern is attributed to a low-pressure area situated over the Southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining West Equatorial Indian Ocean, with a cyclonic circulation extending up to midtropospheric levels. This weather system is projected to move almost northwards, eventually evolving into a well-marked Low-Pressure Area over the Southeast Arabian Sea within the next 24 hours, as highlighted in the IMD release. Residents and authorities in the affected districts are advised to stay informed about the developing weather conditions and take necessary precautions to mitigate any potential impacts.
