No driving test is required to get a licence from the RTO: Here’s everything you need to know.

To make getting a driver’s licence easier, the transportation ministry has implemented new guidelines that allow applicants to receive a licence without having to take a driving test. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways modified rule went into effect on July 1st.

The new guidelines also state that drivers would be offered high-quality driving training and that after passing the test, they will not be required to take any additional driving tests when applying for a licence.

Here’s everything you need to know:

The training centres will eventually contain simulators and a driving test track, allowing applicants to receive high-quality training.

This driving course for a light motor vehicle will last 29 hours and be completed in a maximum of four weeks from the commencement date. The course will be broken into two sections: theory and practise.

In the training centres, the time limit for medium and heavy motor vehicle driving courses is 38 hours over six weeks. The notification stated, “These are to be separated into two portions, theory and practical.”

The training will focus on teaching the fundamentals of ethical and courteous driving behaviour to others on the road.

The training at the centres will cover not only light, medium, and heavy vehicles, but also industry-specific specialised training.

The drivers will be granted accreditation for a period of five years, with the option to renew it.
