Today’s Petrol and Diesel Prices, October 16: Fuel prices have risen yet again; check prices in your city

New Delhi: On Saturday, petrol and diesel prices reached their highest levels in the country, with fuel rates increased by 35 paise per litre.

According to a price notification from state-owned fuel retailers, the price of petrol in Delhi has reached an all-time high of Rs 105.49 per litre, while in Mumbai it has reached Rs 111.43 per litre. In Mumbai, diesel now costs Rs 102.15 per litre, while in Delhi, it costs Rs 94.22 per litre.

Fuel and diesel prices have risen by 35 paise per litre for the third day in a row. There was no change in rates on the 12th and 13th of October.

Petrol and diesel were priced at Rs 106.10 and Rs 97.33 in Kolkata, West Bengal, and Rs 102.70 and Rs 98.59 in Chennai, respectively.

A litre of petrol costs Rs 109.16 in Bengaluru, while a litre of diesel costs Rs 100.00. A litre of petrol costs Rs 109.73 in Hyderabad, while a litre of diesel costs Rs 102.80.

This is the 15th increase in gasoline prices and the 18th increase in diesel prices since a three-week rate revision reprieve ended in the last week of September.

Diesel prices have now surpassed Rs 100 per litre in a dozen states, including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Kerala, Karnataka, and Leh. Prices vary by state and are determined by the amount of local taxes levied.

Since October 6, state-owned fuel merchants have been passing on the higher incidence of cost to consumers, eschewing the modest price increase strategy. The international benchmark Brent crude is trading at USD 84.61 per barrel for the first time in seven years.

A month ago, Brent was trading at USD 73.51. India charges world prices for gasoline and diesel because it is a net importer of oil. A three-week respite in rates was broken on September 28 for gasoline and September 24 for diesel by a spike in global oil prices.

Since then, diesel prices have risen by Rs 5.25 per litre, while petrol prices have risen by Rs 4.25. Petrol prices increased by Rs 11.44 per litre between May 4 and July 17. Diesel prices have risen by Rs 9.14 during this period.
