Delhi Airport Imposes Daily Flight Restrictions for Republic Day Celebrations

In preparation for Republic Day celebrations, the Delhi airport has implemented significant flight restrictions, impacting both arrivals and departures. As per the revised Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), there will be a daily hiatus in flight operations at the Delhi airport from 10:20 am to 12:45 pm until January 26. The earlier curbs, which were exclusive to non-scheduled flights with certain exceptions, have now been expanded to include all flights during the stipulated timeframe.

These restrictions, in effect from January 19 to 26, are part of the broader airspace curbs in the national capital aligned with Republic Day preparations. From January 19 to 25, no flights will be allowed to arrive or depart from Delhi airport between 10:20 am and 12:45 pm. Subsequently, from January 26 to 29, these restrictions will extend from 6 am to 9 pm, according to the NOTAM issued earlier this week. It’s noteworthy that these restrictions primarily apply to non-scheduled flights of scheduled airlines and chartered flights.

Despite the limitations, the NOTAM assures that there will be no impact on operations conducted by the Indian Air Force (IAF), Border Security Force (BSF), Army aviation helicopters, and state-owned aircraft/helicopters flying with the Governor or Chief Minister of a state. The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), being the largest airport in the country, handling approximately 1,300 flights daily, will navigate through these temporary constraints to ensure smooth Republic Day preparations and celebrations.
