Pending Distribution: More than 100,000 Onam Kits Await Recipients

More than 100,000 Onam kits are still pending for distribution, despite the Kerala government having already handed out these free kits to 506,636 recipients. The distribution process extended until 9 PM on the eve of Onam, known as ‘Uthradam’. The remaining kits will be given out to the recipients on Friday.

A delay was observed in Kottayam due to the upcoming Puthuppally bypoll on September 5. Only 500 kits could be distributed there as permission was granted from the Election Commission around 7 PM on Uthradam night. The outstanding 37,137 kits will be distributed in the coming days in Kottayam.

This year, the government allocated kits to 587,691 AAY cardholders and 20,000 residents in welfare institutions across the state. Individuals unable to collect their Onam kits on Friday will have another chance on the following day.
