Kerala CM Set to Publish Textbooks Reinstating NCERT-Removed Sections

The Kerala Chief Minister is set to introduce new textbooks for 11th and 12th-grade students, including content that was previously removed by the NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training). The NCERT faced backlash for eliminating important topics from various subjects as part of their syllabus rationalization process. The State General Education Minister, V Sivankutty, revealed that the additional textbooks will be released on August 23. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will unveil these books during an event at a government school. While Kerala uses its own textbooks for grades 1 to 10, the exclusion of content by NCERT in grades 11 and 12 is not acceptable to the state. Particularly, omissions in subjects like history, sociology, and political science are strongly opposed. The state believes that while textbook updates are necessary, core elements like the nation’s history and constitutional values must remain unchanged. Kerala is committed to resisting such exclusions in the future as well.
