Class 10 and 12 Board Exams to be Conducted Twice Annually Starting 2024

In a significant move aimed at reducing the mental stress faced by students, the Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, has announced that Class 10 and Class 12 board exams will be conducted twice a year starting from 2024. Students will have the option to appear for these exams either once or twice, providing them with flexibility and reducing the pressure associated with a single annual examination.

The minister clarified that these exams will be held at the end of the academic year. One of the key features of this new system is that boards will allow students to choose their best score from the multiple attempts, enhancing their chances of securing a favorable result. Efforts are underway to implement this biannual exam system from 2024, benefitting students across the country.

Moreover, the existing Engineering Entrance Examination (JEE) is already conducted twice a year, providing students with multiple opportunities to appear for the test and improve their scores.

Additionally, the ministry is considering the introduction of a “dummy school” system, where students attend school solely to write the exams. This approach aligns with practices observed in many coaching centers, where students focus primarily on exam preparation.

These changes reflect the government’s commitment to creating a less stressful and more flexible examination system, allowing students to excel academically while minimizing the pressure associated with high-stakes exams. Further details and guidelines regarding the implementation of these initiatives are expected to be released in the coming months.
