Suresh Gopi Questioned by Police Over Alleged Misbehavior With Woman Journalist

Actor-politician Suresh Gopi underwent questioning by the police at Nadakkavu police station on Wednesday in connection with a complaint filed by a woman journalist accusing him of misbehavior during an interaction with reporters last month.

Gopi arrived at the police station around 11.45 am and left approximately three hours later at around 2.25 pm. While departing, he addressed a crowd of BJP supporters and fans, urging them to disperse to avoid creating problems for the police. Gopi expressed gratitude for the public’s support and thanked senior BJP leaders in the state.

An officer from Nadakkavu police station stated that Suresh Gopi was not arrested, but a notice under section 41A of the Criminal Procedure Code was issued. In cases where the punishment is less than seven years, the accused can be allowed to leave without arrest by issuing this notice.

The interrogation took place in a specially arranged room with advanced technology, including a 180-degree four-directional camera, sound equipment, and a recording camera. This setup is currently unique to the Nadakkavu police station in Kozhikode. The interrogation, supervised by CI Binu Mohan, involved top police officials, including Commissioner Rajpal Meena and DCP K Baiju.

Suresh Gopi arrived at the police station with his brother, sister-in-law, and senior advocate BN Shiva Shanker. Earlier in the day, heavy security was deployed around the Nadakkavu police station premises as scores of BJP supporters gathered in support of the actor. The gathering created traffic congestion, and the rally was stopped by the police as it approached the police station gates.

The case against Suresh Gopi was filed based on a complaint by a Kozhikode journalist to the city police commissioner. The complaint alleges inappropriate behavior, accusing Gopi of touching the shoulder of a female journalist during a media interaction in Kozhikode last month. The police registered a case under Section 354 A of the IPC, and the complainant’s statement has already been recorded. The incident took place in a private hotel, and the police have gathered evidence, including CCTV footage.
