Modi 3.0 Cabinet Sworn In with 72 Ministers, Including Suresh Gopi and George Kurian from Kerala

Narendra Modi has been sworn in as the Prime Minister of India for the third time, with a new cabinet of 72 ministers. The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, where President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath of office. Among the new appointees are two Ministers of State from Kerala: Suresh Gopi, who won from Thrissur, and BJP State General Secretary George Kurian.

The ceremony commenced at 7:15 pm and was attended by approximately 7,000 guests, including heads of state from neighboring countries. Suresh Gopi and George Kurian took the oath in the name of God. Gopi’s appointment came after his request to postpone for film commitments was denied, while Kurian was appointed at the last minute and will also become a Rajya Sabha member. Kurian is one of five minority MPs and the sole Christian representative in the cabinet.

The new cabinet is diverse, including representatives from various communities, with the following caste breakdown: OBC (27), Scheduled Caste (10), Scheduled Tribe (5), and seven women ministers. The majority of the cabinet ministers, 25 out of 30, are from the BJP. Allies TDP, JDU, JDS, LJP, and HAM have also secured cabinet positions. Uttar Pradesh has the highest representation with 11 ministers.

Key cabinet ministers include Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Nirmala Sitharaman, S. Jaishankar, Piyush Goyal, Dharmendra Pradhan, Ashwani Vaishnaw, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Jitendra Singh, Hardeep Singh Puri, Mansukh Mandaviya, Arjun Meghwal, Bhupender Yadav, Sarbananda Sonowal, Kiran Rijiju, Pralhad Joshi, Jual Oram, Giriraj Singh, Gajendra Shekhawat, Kiran Reddy, Virendra Kumar Khatik, C.R. Patil, and Annapurna Devi.

BJP President JP Nadda will take on a ministerial role, necessitating the election of a new BJP president. Allies with cabinet rank include Ram Mohan Naidu (TDP), Lalan Singh (JDU), Chirag Paswan (LJP), H.D. Kumaraswamy (JDS), and Jitan Ram Manjhi (HAM). Ministers with independent charge are Jitendra Singh, Arjun Meghwal, Rao Inderjit Singh (BJP), Pratap Rao Jadhav (Shiv Sena), and Jayant Chaudhary (RLD).

Singh Baghel, Pankaj Chaudhary, Kirti Vardhan Singh, B.L. Verma, Shantanu Thakur, L. Murugan, Jai Tamda, S.P. Kishan Pal, Shobha Karandlaje (BJP), Ramnath Thakur (JDU), Ramdas Athawale (RPI), Anupriya Patel (Apna Dal), and Chandrasekhar Pemmasani (TDP).

This diverse and expansive cabinet aims to drive India’s governance under Modi’s third term, balancing representation across various states and communities while addressing contemporary challenges and opportunities.
