PM Modi Departs After G7 Summit; ‘Melodi’ Trends on X

Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for home on Friday after completing his visit to Italy, where he attended the G7 summit and engaged in bilateral meetings with several world leaders, including British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Pope Francis.

During his address at an Outreach session of the G7 summit held in Italy’s Apulia region, PM Modi emphasized the need to dismantle monopolies in technology. He highlighted the necessity of making technology creative to foster an inclusive society. Modi particularly stressed the importance of artificial intelligence, noting that India is among the first nations to develop a national strategy on AI.

On the sidelines of the summit, Modi held meetings with various prominent leaders, including US President Joe Biden, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, French President Macron, British Prime Minister Sunak, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni, Pope Francis, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. His meeting with Macron was particularly significant as it marked his first official bilateral engagement with an international leader since starting his third term as Prime Minister earlier this month.

Besides India, Italy had invited leaders from 11 developing countries in Africa, South America, and the Indo-Pacific region to attend the G7 summit. As anticipated, the hashtag #Melodi began trending on social media, spurred by the interactions between PM Modi and Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni. This trend, which gained momentum following their meetings at the G20 Summit in Delhi and COP 28 in Dubai, is populated with memes highlighting their apparent rapport. Despite the light-hearted nature of these memes, some, like Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, have criticized them as “absolutely cringe,” arguing that they reflect a low level of humor.

Nevertheless, the hashtag #Melodi continues to be one of the top trending topics on the X platform.
