PM Modi to Lead International Day of Yoga Celebrations in Srinagar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lead the 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebrations at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Complex (SKICC) in Srinagar on Friday. Thousands of Jammu and Kashmir residents will join him in performing yoga asanas along the picturesque banks of Srinagar’s Dal Lake.

Over 7,000 participants from various backgrounds will gather with Prime Minister Modi to mark this special event. Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha and Ayush Minister Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav will also attend. This year’s theme, ‘Yoga for Self and Society’, underscores yoga’s role in enhancing personal well-being and promoting societal harmony. The event aims to unite participants in advocating for global health and wellness through yoga.

During the celebration, PM Modi will address the crowd and take part in the Common Yoga Protocol session, emphasizing yoga’s importance for physical, mental, and spiritual health. Since 2015, PM Modi has championed the global promotion of yoga, leading IDY events at renowned locations such as Kartavya Path in Delhi, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Ranchi, Jabalpur, and even the UN Headquarters in New York. His efforts have greatly increased yoga’s global popularity and recognition.

IDY events have set four Guinness World Records in the past decade. In 2015, PM Modi led 35,985 participants in a yoga session at Rajpath. In 2023, around 23.4 crore people worldwide participated in IDY events.

For IDY 2024, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will launch a special ‘Yoga for Space’ initiative, where all ISRO scientists and officials will practice yoga following the Common Yoga Protocol guidelines. The Gaganyaan project team will also participate in global yoga activities.
