WhatsApp Testing In-App Dialler for Seamless Calling Experience on Android

WhatsApp is reportedly exploring new features for its Android platform, including a potential in-app dialler aimed at enhancing user convenience. According to WABetaInfo, a feature tracking site, the latest WhatsApp for Android beta app update introduces this in-app dialler. The feature is designed to allow users to make calls directly from within WhatsApp without needing to switch to their device’s native dialler or save contacts on their Android smartphones.

The in-app dialler is expected to manifest as a floating action button (FAB) within the Calls tab of WhatsApp. This functionality will enable users to initiate WhatsApp calls even to numbers that are not saved in their phone’s address book. Sources indicate that this feature has been observed in the WhatsApp for Android beta version Android 2.24.13.17.

In addition to facilitating calls, the dialler may also offer options to save the contact details directly to the phone’s address book, either as a new entry or an update to an existing one. Furthermore, it will reportedly include a messaging option, allowing users who initially intended to call someone to switch to sending a WhatsApp message instead.

The in-app dialler is currently speculated to provide a feature to check whether a given number is registered on WhatsApp. This feature is said to be in testing with select users who are part of the Google Play Beta program and have opted to be beta testers for WhatsApp’s Android app.

However, as of now, no confirmation has been provided by WhatsApp regarding the official rollout timeline or the availability of these features to all users. It remains a feature in development and subject to further testing and refinement before potential wider release.

Alongside the in-app dialler, WhatsApp is also reportedly introducing new, more dynamic stickers supported by the Lottie framework. This framework allows for the creation of animations using motion graphic design software like Adobe After Effects, optimized for smooth playback on mobile devices. The first sticker pack to utilize this new framework is “I’m Just a Girl,” developed by BUCK, which marks an advancement in the visual capabilities of WhatsApp’s sticker offerings for both Android and iOS users.

WhatsApp continues to innovate with features aimed at enhancing user experience and functionality, signaling ongoing developments within the popular messaging platform.
