Extreme Rainfall in Kerala: Four Dead After Wall Collapse, Widespread Damage

Heavy rains continue to cause widespread destruction across several parts of Kerala. An orange alert has been issued for Kannur and Kasaragod districts, while Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts remain on yellow alert. Numerous houses have been damaged, and fatalities have been reported due to the extreme weather conditions on Wednesday.

In Ullal Madani Nagar near Mangaluru, a tragic incident occurred when a wall collapsed onto a house during heavy rain, resulting in the deaths of four people. The victims, Yasir (45), his wife Maryumma (40), and their children Rifan (17) and Rihana (11), were asleep at the time. Rescue workers took over three hours to recover their bodies from the debris.

A significant landslide near Vadakara Murad Bridge caused electricity poles to fall, leading to power outages in the area. The landslide, which fell from a height of 15 meters, affected the national highway and left the soil in the region unstable. One house remains at risk, and locals are urging authorities to take immediate action.

In Devikulam Munnar, a heavy gravel fall damaged Wilson’s house, though he and his family escaped unharmed. A similar incident was reported in Ernakulam Poothrikka.

The Pathanamthitta Perunad Arayanjilimon causeway, which serves over 400 families, has been submerged due to rising water levels in the Pampa and Achankovil rivers.

In Bonami, Idukki, a tree fell on a house, but the occupants, Chippaiah, his wife, and their son, were uninjured. However, in Ambalapuzha, a mother and her four-year-old child sustained injuries when their roof collapsed due to strong winds.

Authorities and rescue teams are working tirelessly to manage the crisis and provide relief to affected residents.
