India Faces South Africa in T20 World Cup Final: Will the ICC Trophy Drought End?

After their heartbreaking loss in the ODI World Cup final last November, the Indian cricket team has another shot at a world title as they take on South Africa in the T20 World Cup final today in Barbados, West Indies. The match is set to start at 8 pm Indian time.

South Africa, led by Aiden Markram, secured their spot in the final by defeating Afghanistan by 9 wickets in the first semi-final on June 27. India, captained by Rohit Sharma, reached the final by overcoming England with a 68-run victory in a rain-affected second semi-final. This marks the first time these two teams have faced each other in an ICC tournament final.

There is a potential threat of rain, similar to the semi-final, which could affect the final. If rain disrupts play, the match will continue on the reserve day. If the game cannot be completed on the reserve day, joint winners will be declared. The match will be broadcast live on Star Sports and streamed on Hotstar.

Since winning the inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007, India has yet to claim another T20 World Cup title and is making its first final appearance since 2014. This is South Africa’s first World Cup final in any format of the game.
