WhatsApp to Introduce ‘Imagine Me’ Feature for AI-Generated Personalized Images

WhatsApp is preparing to introduce a feature called ‘Imagine Me’ that utilizes Meta AI to create personalized images for users. This development follows the expansion of Meta AI chatbots in markets like India and the US by the Meta-owned messaging platform. The feature, identified in the latest WhatsApp for Android beta via Google Play Beta, allows users to generate AI-generated photos of themselves. According to WABetaInfo, users opting into the feature may be prompted to upload several reference selfies. The ‘Imagine Me’ feature, noted in the WhatsApp beta version 2.24.14.13, is still under development and not yet available for testing on Android phones.

The functionality of WhatsApp’s new AI feature involves users initiating the creation of AI images by typing “Imagine me” in the Meta AI chat window or “@Meta AI imagine me” in other chats. The feature includes options to select different backgrounds and locations, ranging “from the forest to outer space,” enabling users to customize their images, potentially for creating personalized stickers. Users are expected to have the ability to delete uploaded photos at any time through settings, as reported by WABetaInfo. Meta AI, which competes with ChatGPT, began its rollout in India recently and is already accessible on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger. The new AI image generation feature on WhatsApp is expected to be optional, requiring users to manually enable it in settings when it becomes available in a future update.
