Kerala Police Collaborate with Cyber Cell Experts to Combat Online Film Review Harassment

In response to the rising concerns surrounding online film reviewing and harassment within the film industry, the Kerala Police have taken a significant step by seeking the expertise of cyber cell specialists. This move comes following the registration of the first case against online film reviewing, initiated by a complaint from the director of ‘Rahel Makan Kora’. The case has specifically targeted five YouTube channels and two Facebook accounts, leading the Ernakulam Central police to delve into the digital realm to gather essential information. Their focus lies in tracing the accounts responsible for publishing negative reviews, which have seemingly vanished into the anonymity of the internet.

The authorities’ proactive approach also includes an ongoing investigation into reports of individuals extorting money in exchange for altering or removing such negative reviews. Simultaneously, the Kerala High Court is attentively reviewing a petition filed by the director of ‘Aromalinte Adyathe Pranayam’, shedding light on the ill-intentioned reviews that aim to defame movies. In response to these concerns, the state police chief has outlined a special protocol, ensuring a structured and diligent process while handling complaints related to online film reviews. This collaborative effort signifies a crucial step towards safeguarding the integrity of the film industry and maintaining a fair online reviewing environment.
