33 Opposition Members, Including Congress and DMK Leaders, Suspended from Lok Sabha

On Monday, 33 opposition members, including prominent leaders like Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury from Congress, T R Baalu and Dayanidhi Maran from DMK, and Saugata Roy from TMC, were suspended from the Lok Sabha for disrupting the proceedings. The suspension, which affects 31 members for the remainder of the Winter Session and three pending the report of the Privileges Committee, came after the MPs engaged in unruly behavior, prompting the parliamentary affairs minister, Pralhad Joshi, to move a motion for their suspension. The disruption led to the adjournment of the House for the day. Among those suspended were three members, K Jayakumar, Vijay Vasanth, and Abdul Khaleque, who had climbed onto the Speaker’s podium to raise slogans.

The suspension reflects the ongoing tensions and disruptions in parliamentary sessions, with opposition parties protesting various issues. The Winter Session has been marked by repeated adjournments and a lack of productive discussions, affecting the legislative business of the House. The move to suspend members is a response to the continuous disruptions, aiming to restore order and enable smoother functioning during the remaining days of the session.
