CPM Faces Prolonged Legal Challenges as ED’s Investigation in Karuvannur Case Intensifies

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has recently issued a seizure order in the Karuvannur black money case, indicating that the troubles for the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPM] are far from over. According to the ED, a CPM sub-committee and parliamentary committee allegedly interfered in the bank’s policy affairs, controlling loan approvals. They have further accused the party of maintaining separate records for legal and illegal loans, with unauthorized loans being issued under the directives of senior CPM leaders.

The ED’s order implies the likelihood of additional investigations, potentially involving more party leaders. The findings also suggest the possibility of police involvement and voluntary cases being filed, adding to the challenges faced by the party. Despite the arrest of Wadakkanchery councillor PR Aravindakshan, the CPM’s legal woes seem far from resolution.

Crucial documents and electronic devices pertinent to the case were reportedly seized from CPM leader AC Moideen’s residence, providing substantial evidence for potential charges against him. This development deepens the legal complexities for the party in the ongoing investigation.
