Supreme Court to Resume Hearings on SNC Lavalin Case

Today, the Supreme Court is set to resume the hearings regarding the SNC Lavalin case. Previously, the hearing had been postponed due to Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, representing the CBI, being occupied in another court.

This long-standing case, dating back a decade, has put Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in a challenging position in the past. Over the span of six years, it has appeared on the docket of more than 30 different occasions across four benches in the highest court.

The case revolves around the awarding of a contract to Canadian company SNC Lavalin for the renovation of three hydel projects, namely Chengulam, Pallivasal, and Panniyar. This decision was made during Pinarayi Vijayan’s tenure as the power minister in the EK Nayanar cabinet between 1996 and 1998. Allegedly, this contract resulted in a financial loss of Rs 86.25 crore.
