PM Modi Addresses Global South Summit, Stresses Unity Amid Hamas-Israel Conflict

During the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned the death of civilians and emphasized the need for countries in the Global South to unite and address emerging challenges. Speaking at the second edition of the India-hosted virtual Voice of Global South Summit, Modi highlighted India’s commitment to dialogue, diplomacy, and restraint in dealing with the situation. He mentioned India’s condemnation of the terrorist attack on Israel while expressing deep concern for the loss of civilian lives in the conflict.

The summit, initiated by India in January, serves as a unique platform reflecting the changing dynamics of the 21st century. Modi called for cooperation based on the ‘five Cs’: consultation, communication, cooperation, creativity, and capacity building. Additionally, he noted the historic moment when India’s efforts led to the African Union becoming a permanent member of the G20. Modi emphasized the importance of providing climate finance and technology on favorable terms to countries in the Global South for effective climate transition. He underscored India’s belief that new technology should bridge, not widen, the gap between the Global South and North.
