Superfoods to include in your diet during the monsoon season

Along with strong winds and nonstop rain, the monsoon season in India ushers in a season for savoury delicacies. It is critical to remember that extreme weather changes have an impact on our digestive system and make it susceptible to infections. We can protect ourselves by eating foods that are high in nutrients and help strengthen the body’s immune system. Rohit Shelatkar, VP at Vitabiotics and Fitness and Nutrition Expert, provides the following list of superfoods:

1.The classic Indian monsoon snack is roasted corn cob coated with spices and butter. Because it is low in calories and high in fibre, corn is the ultimate power-packed and healthy monsoon food. It is also high in lutein and two phytochemicals that help with vision. Aside from aiding weight loss, the insoluble fibre in corn feeds the good bacteria in our gut, which aids digestion. Corn can be boiled, steamed, or roasted, and it is a very versatile food that can be used in salads and main dishes.

2.During the monsoon season, gastrointestinal infections are more common, and the humble banana is the best defence. They are high in vitamins and minerals, which aid in digestion. They also contain ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and retinol, which can help boost our immune system. Furthermore, bananas have a low caloric value and help the stomach feel fuller for longer periods.

3.Eggs are an all-season superfood that is high in protein and aids in muscle mass development. Eggs also help to boost the immune system and fight infections.

4.Monsoon fruits like lychee, papaya, pomegranates, and pears not only help the body digest food better but also aid in the fight against infections caused by the increase in humidity levels. Monsoon fruits are also high in antioxidants, which aid in the reduction of blood pressure and the prevention of various infections. Jamun is another seasonal fruit worth eating because it is high in iron, folate, potassium, and vitamins.

5.Staying hydrated is one of the most effective ways to stay healthy and avoid bacterial infections. Coconut water is high in electrolytes, which aid in the removal of toxins from the body. It also has immune-boosting properties and can benefit one’s skin and heart health. It is also the best option for those attempting to lose weight. To increase Vitamin C levels in the body, drink coconut water at room temperature with a splash of lemon juice or pineapple.
