Indian Embassy Officials Monitor Recovery of Injured Malayalis After Kuwait Fire

In the aftermath of the tragic fire in Mangaf, southern Kuwait, officials from the Indian Embassy have made visits to the five hospitals where 25 injured Indians are receiving medical treatment. The Embassy’s visit aimed to assess the medical conditions and ensure proper care for the affected individuals. In a post on X, the Indian Embassy in Kuwait stated, “The Embassy team @indembkwt visited all 5 hospitals where injured Indians in the recent tragic fire-incident are receiving medical treatment. They met/enquired about the medical condition of 25 patients currently in hospitals. Most patients are already in touch with their families,” the embassy added.

The survivors, primarily from Kerala, are being treated in government hospitals, including Adan, Jaber, Farwaniya, Mubarak Al Kabeer, and Jahra. Reports indicate that the condition of the Malayali survivors is steadily improving. Initially, many required ventilator support, but their health has since progressed, and ventilators are no longer necessary. Currently, 31 people are still undergoing treatment, but their condition continues to improve.

Among those severely affected is Suresh Kumar, a senior administrator at NBTC company, who remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). His condition is reported to be stable. Most of the injured have been moved to general and orthopedic wards, showing signs of recovery, and are expected to be discharged in the coming days.

This positive update comes four days after the devastating fire at a labour accommodation in Mangaf, which claimed the lives of 45 Indians. Of these, 24 were from Kerala, seven from Tamil Nadu, and one from Karnataka. The tragedy has had a profound impact on the Indian community in Kuwait, particularly those from Kerala, as many of the victims were Malayali workers.

The Indian Embassy continues to closely monitor the situation, ensuring that the affected individuals receive the necessary medical care and support during their recovery.
